I tried applying pool acid to the paper, but it doesn't have much of an effect, besides turning the page yellow. I later tore up the book and soaked in boiled water. The paper became soggy and started to pulp slowly.

After digging up my book, not much has changed. I have decided to look at the effects chemicals would have on the paper and possibly turn the pages yellow, or pulp the book.

After soaking my book in water, I have taken to burying it in a container of garden soil & will be watering it every day for a while.

Over the weekend, I soaked my book, first in cold water for three hours and then in hot water for about ten hours. This made the paper swell and soften and the cover seperated from the book, the book became really flimsy.

Books seem nowadays to be such an outdated source of information. Info is so easily obtained from all around the world by using the internet. In an attempt to engage with this topic and of the content of the particular book, I am beginning a book alteration for art purposes of the book "A Brief History of Ancient Times" by Hugh Jones. By blogging about my process I also hope to bring in a technological aspect to my process and show how prominent technology is at present.

I will be attempting to speed up decomposition of the book, not to the point where it is none existant, but that I am able to exhibit the remains in a specimen jar like an ancient artefact. I will use a number of methods to try and do so. I don't know exactly what it will turn out like, but hopefully I will be able to work with the remains.
